Linda Sestock Represents Local Community at UN Commission on the Status of Women

Local real estate broker Linda Sestock recently had the privilege of discussing her participation in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW68) on CBC news Montreal. Held in New York City from March 11th to 22nd, 2024, the event focused on accelerating the achievement of gender equality and empowering all women and girls by addressing poverty, strengthening institutions, and financing with a gender perspective.

The UNCSW68 delved into crucial topics, including strategies to eradicate poverty, recognizing its disproportionate impact on women, reforms within institutions to remove barriers to women’s rights, and creating a more equitable financial landscape to enhance women’s participation in economic activities.

As one of the 20 members representing the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) delegation, Linda Sestock joined policymakers, government officials, and activists worldwide at the UNCSW68. The commission stands as the primary intergovernmental body dedicated solely to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls globally. CFUW, holding Consultative Status with the UN through the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), sent Linda Sestock as part of its delegation, alongside other accredited civil society organizations, UN Member States, and UN agencies.

Reflecting on her experience, Linda expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to represent her community and CFUW at the UNCSW68. “I was honored to represent the MLUWC and CFUW at CSW68 – and to share ideas with women from across the globe on how to address gender equality. Better conditions for women mean better conditions for the entire community,” Linda Sestock remarked, highlighting the interconnectedness of gender equality with broader societal well-being.

Linda Sestock’s involvement in the UNCSW68 underscores the importance of local engagement in global efforts to advance gender equality and empower women and girls. As a dedicated community member and advocate, Linda’s contributions serve as a testament to the impactful role individuals can play in fostering positive change on both local and international levels.
